Neurofeedback and Auditory Processing

Our wellness center provides EEG neurofeedback/neurotherapy, Audio Visual Entrainment, and auditory processing for improved brain performance and general health support. Our protocols support many areas such as: learning disabilities, autistic spectrum, fibromylagia, neuropathy, endocrine health, PTSD, stroke recovery, TMJ, trigeminal nerve, post partum depression, anxiety, asperger's, lupus, PMS, traumatic brain injury, peak performance, ADD, ADHD, speech and language processing and more.

Please read on to learn more about neurofeedback and auditory processing.

What is Neurofeedback?

Simply explained, Neurofeedback is brain exercise. During neurofeedback, your own brain waves provide moment to moment activity which we monitor and feed back to your brain. Neurofeedback is based on operant conditioning. By observing your brain activities, we help you to change it by rewarding your brain to shift towards a more appropriate and stable brain state. Brain training is a gradual learning process for your brain and it encourages your brain to better self regulate.

How is Neurofeedback done?

The clinician applies electroencephalongram (EEG) sensors to your scalp with EEG paste. The sensors pick up your brain waves which are fed to our computers. The procedure is painless and there is no electrical voltage or current to your brain. It is a non-invasive, entirely safe process. Our computers process the brain waves and extracts certain information from them. We show your brain the ebb and flow of its own waves and the extracted information and your brain learns how to improve itself. Placement and brain training are unique to each individual and disregulation being addressed.

What can Neurofeedback Help?

Because neurofeedback is training in self regulation and designed for optimal brain function, it can help many situations. Self regulation targets the Central Nervous System, thereby improving mental performance, physiological and psychological performances. Neurofeedback targets the bioelectrical functioning of the brain. The brain's biolectrical functioning is more important than the often discussed "chemical imbalance". Neurofeedback focuses on the brain's functional disregulation. Neurofeedback can help many disregulation concerns. By exercising the brain's internal regulatory networks through neurofeedback, functional deficits in the body are addressed.

Can Neurofeedback cure symptoms or condictions?

Neurofeedback focuses on getting the brain to function better instead of curing a condition. With neurofeedback, the focus is about addressing problems of brain disregulation, therefore we do not see a disease to be cured but a brain and a body that need to be gradually returned to self regulation.

Who can benefit from Neurofeedback?

Individuals of any age can benefit from neurofeedback treatment. Neurofeedback can help myriad of childhood problems such as bedwetting, nightmares, attention deficits, learning and retention issues, disruptive and disturbing behaviors. Adolescents who need relief from anxiety, depression, stress, drug or alcohol use can benefit from neurofeedback. In adults, neurofeedback can alleviate symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, hormone disregulation, physical, emotional and mental symptoms such as migraines, PTSD, post stroke injury, traumatic brain injury, autoimmune disregulation and many more. Neurofeedback can help anyone maintain a good brain function as they age. Those seeking to improve their performance at work, business, sports and creative arts and music can also benefit from neurofeedback.

What if I am on Medication?

With successful neurofeedback training, medications targeting brain function may no longer be needed or they may be needed at lower dosages as the brain takes over the job of regulating itself. It is important for you to communicate with your prescribing physician regarding neurofeedback and medication.

Where can I learn more about Neurofeedback?

We periodically host free presentations about our services and programs and we encourage you to return to our site for schedule and updates. There are many published texts about the healing benefits of neurofeedback readily available for purchase online. Suggested reading titles include: "The Healing Powers of Neurofeedback" by Stephen Larsen, Ph.D.; "ADD: The 20 Hour Solution" by Mark Steinberg, Ph.D. and Siegfried Othmer, Ph.D.; "Getting Rid of Ritalin: How Neurofeedback can Successfully Treat Attention Deficit Disorder Without Drugs" by Eduardo Castro, MD and Robert W. Hill, Ph.D.; and "A Symphony in the Brain" by Jim Robbins.

I am Interested, what's next?

If you want to experience the benefits of neurofeedback, your first step is to call and make an appointment. Your intake appointment is 1 1/2 hours and includes a session of neurofeedback. You will complete questionnaires , talk with our clinician, and then undergo a session.

Will my insurance cover Neurofeedback?

Some insurance companies reimburse neurofeedback training. Ask your insurance provider about neurofeedback. We do not bill insurances directly but we are happy to provide you an invoice you can send to your insurance for reimbursement.

Auditory Processing

The ears are responsible for many things. Our ears have roles in auditory perception, attention, discirmination, expression, self regulation, social engagement, balance and body awareness. How we hear and interpret information influence our lives in all areas. Behaviors and performances in school, work,  relationships, and overall interactions are impacted by how the ears process and relay sound waves to the brain. The receipt and interpretation of these sound waves are the focus of our auditory processing protocols. Focusing on the audible sound waves that the human ears can perceive and interpret, we use targeted music listening therapies to regulate body awareness, balance, sensory perception and integration, speech and language, focus, creativity, alertness, and more.

We work to support the brain's regulation of memory, concentration, attention, speech, vocal control, language, balance, rhythm, body awareness, muscle tone, coordination, sense of direction, right and left discrimination, intuition, energy, ideas, creativity, focus, ideals, improved speaking, motor skills, improved sleep, and auditory cohesion.

We offer on site sessions at the center  as well as home sessions with off site monitoring.

Our protocols have effectively benefited improved learning abilities, better social skills, increased attention and focus, improved behavioral tendencies, anxiety, insomnia, various aspects on the autism spectrum and many more conditions.
